Fury Program

Thunder Bay Women’s Hockey Association (TBWHA) offers many levels of play for females interested in hockey.  The Fury Program gives players the opportunity to play competitive hockey against other sanctioned organizations within Canada and the United States.  Similar to the TBWHA Queen’s program, the Fury program requires coaching staff to be qualified to coach at that level.  While Queens require a High Performance 1 coaching certificate for “AA”, and Development 1 for “A” levels, the Fury program also requires Development 1.

The Fury program is the next level up from house league, one level down from Queens A.  Each division has its own Fury program which is structured towards the appropriate age group. Player registration fluctuates from year to year so when numbers allow, and certified coaching is available, 2 Fury teams are formed in any division.

Over the past couple of years TBWHA has had a very successful Fury Program.  Last season the Fury Program was involved in an interlock in the division higher, playing 15 or more competitive games (eg. Midget Fury played 30 games in the Senior Division).  Along with games, the Fury attends 4 tournaments of the coaching staffs’ choice.  Midget Fury also attended OWHA Provincials.

Along with playing in the division higher, last season the Atom Fury and the Peewee Fury teams were involved in an interlock with Lakehead Minor Hockey and Bantam Fury played exhibition games against the Queens.  Midget Fury played exhibition games against the Midget A Queens, Bantam AA Queens, Confederation College, Lakehead University and Fort Frances Highschool.

With numerous practices and qualified coaches, the Fury Program aims to develop players for the next level. With less of a commitment this program also gives the girls the opportunity to participate in school activities.  The Fury Program can be an incredibly rewarding experience for players and their families.  Not only is it a great hockey development program and a great hockey experience, but it is also a great life experience.  The players, parents and even the siblings often develop friendships that can last a lifetime. We are excited to have players experience what we have to offer.
